Gray foxes are small, adaptable woodland mammals found throughout much of the United States, as well as parts of Mexico and Central America. Unlike red foxes, gray foxes are excellent tree climbers, have shorter legs and more rounded faces, and often thrive in dense forests, brush, swamps, and rocky terrain. They generally travel within a familiar home range, moving through cover to forage, raise young, and search for shelter, with seasonal movements and dispersal varying by habitat and food availability.
